The Philips HeartStart (Onsite & Home) Defibrillator is intended to be fast to learn and easy to use for lay responders in the community; home or workplace. It is the first defibrillator that senses operator behavior and adapts its voice instructions according to the user's actions; guiding them through every step of the defibrillation process. Philips is the worldwide leader in portable defibrillators with more than 175;000 devices deployed. You will find Philips defibrillators on airplanes; and in airports; workplaces; communities; and homes. This award winning safety device was designed so that virtually anyone can use it to help save the life of a person who suffers a sudden cardiac arrest. The Philips HeartStart Onsite and Home AEDs use a highly accurate algorithm to determine whether the patient’s heart require a shock. It is designed to only deliver a shock if one is needed. It’s patented SMART analysis heart rhythm assessment and SMART Biphasic defibrillation therapy is clinically proven in over 10 years of use. The HeartStart defibrillator is available for use on anyone of any age including infants and children. Note that the Infant/Child pads cartridge are sold separately and available by prescription only. These special pads are for children under the age of 8 or weighing less than 55 pounds. The HeartStart Defibrillator is specifically designed for use by virtually anyone to help save a life. If you suspect that someone is in sudden cardiac arrest (they are not breathing and you can’t wake the person) CALL 911 first. Then follow this three step process to restart a heart: PULL; PLACE & PRESS. STEP 1 – Pull the cartridge handle; it’s marked “PULL” in large letters. This initiates the clear calm voice that will guide you through the process. STEP 2 – Place the pads on the patient’s chest. The voice instructions tell you exactly what to do. HeartStart can even sense and adapt to your actions. If you are moving quickly; the voice prompts stay with you. If you are taking more time; HeartStart provides increasingly detailed instructions to help you place the pad correctly. Once HeartStart senses that the pads have been applied to the skin; it automatically begins analyzing the patient’s heart rhythm. HeartStart decides whether a shock is needed; you don’t have to. STEP 3 - Press the shock button. If HeartStart decides a shock is needed; it will instruct you to press the flashing orange button. The HeartStart is designed to only let you deliver a shock if it determines one is needed. HeartStart even provides CPR coaching. That essentially is how it works. You can feel confident that the defibrillator is providing easy to follow; straightforward directions and coaching.
